Masses of the BVM: 15 The Blessed Virgin Mary and the Resurrection of the Lord

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON

Rejoice, Mother of Light:
Jesus, the sun of justice,
overcoming the darkness of the tomb,
sheds his radiance over the whole world, alleluia.

COLLECT

O God, who have been pleased to gladden the world
by the Resurrection of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
grant, we pray,
that through his Mother, the Virgin Mary,
we may receive the joys of everlasting life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

FIRST READING
Rev 21:1-5a

I saw the new Jerusalem, as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband.

A reading from the Book of Revelation

I, John, saw a new heaven and a new earth.
The former heaven and the former earth had passed away,
and the sea was no more.
I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
“Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race.
God will dwell with them and they will be his people
and God himself will always be with them as their God.
God will wipe every tear from their eyes,
and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain,
for the old order has passed away.”

The One who sat on the throne said,
“Behold, I make all things new.”

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Is 61:10a-d and f, 11; 62:2-3

℟. O Mary, you are the city of God in whom justice dwells.

I rejoice heartily in the LORD,
   in my God is the joy of my soul;
for he has clothed me with a robe of salvation,
and wrapped me in a mantle of justice,
like a bride bedecked with her jewels.

℟. O Mary, you are the city of God in whom justice dwells.

As the earth brings forth its plants,
and a garden makes its growth spring up,
so will the Lord GOD make justice and praise
spring up before all the nations.

℟. O Mary, you are the city of God in whom justice dwells.

Nations shall behold your vindication,
   and all kings your glory;
you shall be called by a new name
pronounced by the mouth of the LORD.
You shall be a glorious crown in the hand of the LORD,
a royal diadem held by your God.

℟. O Mary, you are the city of God in whom justice dwells.

VERSE BEFORE THE GOSPEL

℟. Alleluia, alleluia.

Hail, holy Mary,
as you stood by the cross in sorrow,
you bore the sufferings of your Son
but now you are filled with serenity and joy.

℟. Alleluia, alleluia.

GOSPEL
Mt 28:1-10

Tell his disciples that he has risen.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning,
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
And behold, there was a great earthquake;
for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven,
approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it.
The appearance of the angel was like lightning
and his clothing was white as snow.

The guards were shaken with fear of him
   and became like dead men.
Then the angel said to the women in reply,
   “Do not be afraid!
I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified.
He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said.
Come and see the place where he lay.
Then go quickly and tell his disciples,
‘He has been raised from the dead,
   and he is going before you to Galilee;
   there you will see him.’
   Behold, I have told you.”
Then Mary Magdalene and the other Mary
went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed,
and ran to announce the news to Jesus’ disciples.
And behold, Jesus met the women on their way and greeted them.
They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid.
Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee,
and there they will see me.”

At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:

The Gospel of the Lord.

All reply:

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Then he kisses the book, saying quietly:

Through the words of the Gospel
may our sins be wiped away.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

As we observe this Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we bring you our offerings, O Lord,
praying to be given strength by the humanity of Christ,
who offered himself to you on the Cross
as the unblemished oblation.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

PREFACE: Mary and the Resurrection of the Lord
The Blessed Virgin Looked Forward in Faith to the Resurrection of Her Son.

℣.
The Lord be with you.
℟. And with your spirit.
℣. Lift up your hearts.
℟. We lift them up to the Lord.
℣. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
℟. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
For at the Resurrection of your Anointed One
you filled the heart of the Blessed Virgin
with joy beyond all telling
and wonderfully exalted her faith.

For it was in faith
that she conceived your Son,
it was in faith
that she awaited his Resurrection.

In the strength of faith
she waited for that day of light and life
when the night of death would be ended,
the whole world would exult,
and the infant Church tremble with joy
at seeing again its immortal Lord.

Through him the Angels of heaven
offer their prayer of adoration
as they rejoice in your presence for ever.
May our voices be one with theirs
in their triumphant hymn of praise:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

COMMUNION ANTIPHON

Rejoice, O Virgin Mother,
for Christ has risen from the tomb, alleluia.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Confirm in our minds the mysteries of the true faith,
we pray, O Lord,
so that, confessing that he who was conceived of the Virgin Mary
is true God and true man,
we may, through the saving power of his Resurrection,
merit to attain eternal joy.
Through Christ our Lord.

SOLEMN BLESSING

The following Solemn Blessing may be used:

The Lord be with you.

The people reply:

And with your spirit.

The Deacon or, in his absence, the Priest himself, says the invitation:

Bow down for the blessing.

Then the Priest, with hands outstretched over the people, says

God the Father, through the Resurrection of his Son,
gladdened the Blessed Virgin and the infant Church;
may he fill you with every spiritual joy and peace.
℟. Amen.

Jesus Christ, who was born of a spotless Virgin,
arose incorruptible from the grave;
may he preserve undiminished in your hearts the fullness of your baptismal faith.
℟. Amen.

May the Holy Spirit,
whose coming the Blessed Virgin, with the Apostles,
awaited in sure faith,
dwell with you to purify your hearts.
℟. Amen.

And may the blessing of almighty God,
the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit,
come down on you and remain with you for ever.
℟. Amen.

Then the Deacon, or the Priest himself, with hands joined and facing the people, says:

Go forth, the Mass is ended.

Or:

Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.

Or:

Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.

Or:

Go in peace.

The people reply:

Thanks be to God.
