ENTRANCE ANTIPHON

Psalm 45: 10


Hail, holy Mary, rich fountain of love,
treasure-house of all graces,
in your chaste womb you bore him
who is truly God and truly human.

Or:

Hail, holy Mother of God, our life was lost
but now through you it is restored,
for you received a child from heaven
and brought to birth the Savior of the world.

COLLECT

Lord our God,
in your eternal wisdom and love
you chose the Blessed Virgin Mary
to be the Mother of the author of all grace
and as his companion in bringing about
the mystery of our redemption.
Grant that she may obtain for us
graces in abundance
and lead us at last
to the harbor of eternal salvation.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

FIRST READING
Est 8:3-8, 16-17

How can I bear to see the evil that is to befall my people?

A reading from the Book of Esther

In another audience with the king,
   Esther fell at his feet and tearfully implored him to revoke the harm done by
   Haman the Agagite,
   and the plan he had devised against the Jews.

The king stretched forth the golden scepter to Esther.
So she rose and, standing in his presence, said:
   “If it pleases your majesty and seems proper to you,
   and if I have found favor with you and you love me,
   let a document be issued to revoke the letters
   which that schemer Haman, son of Hammedatha the Agagite,
   wrote for the destruction of the Jews in all the royal provinces.
For how can I witness the evil that is to befall my people,
   and how can I behold the destruction of my race?”

King Ahasuerus then said to Queen Esther and to the Jew Mordecai:
“Now that I have given Esther the house of Haman,
   and they have hanged him on the gibbet because he attacked the Jews,
   you in turn may write in the king’s name what you see fit concerning the Jews
   and seal the letter with the royal signet ring.”
For whatever is written in the name of the king
   and sealed with the royal signet ring cannot be revoked.

And there was splendor and merriment for the Jews,
   exultation and triumph.
In each and every province and in each and every city,
   wherever the king’s order arrived,
   there was merriment and exultation,
   banqueting and feasting for the Jews.
And many of the peoples of the land embraced Judaism.

GOSPEL
Jn 2:1-11

The mother of Jesus was there. And his disciples believed in him.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

There was a wedding in Cana in Galilee,
   and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short,
   the mother of Jesus said to him,
   “They have no wine.”
And Jesus said to her,
   “Woman, how does your concern affect me?
My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servers,
   “Do whatever he tells you.”
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,
   each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus told the servers,
   “Fill the jars with water.”
So they filled them to the brim.
Then Jesus told them,
   “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.”
So they took it.
And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine,
   without knowing where it came from
   (although the servers who had drawn the water knew),
   the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,
   “Everyone serves good wine first,
   and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one;
   but you have kept the good wine until now.”
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee
   and so revealed his glory,
   and his disciples began to believe in him.

At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:

The Gospel of the Lord.

All reply:

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Then he kisses the book, saying quietly:

Through the words of the Gospel
may our sins be wiped away.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Lord,
receive our offering of peace and praise
on this memorial of the Virgin Mary in glory;
by the power of the Holy Spirit
make what we present the Sacrament of our redemption,
so that what Christ our Mediator has established
as the means of our reconciliation with you
may become for us the source of grace
and the enduring fountain of eternal salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.

PREFACE: Mary, Mother and Mediatrix of Grace
The Love the Blessed Virgin Bestows as a Mother.

℣.
The Lord be with you.
℟. And with your spirit.
℣. Lift up your hearts.
℟. We lift them up to the Lord.
℣. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
℟. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.

For truly God and truly human,
he was chosen by you as
the one Mediator between you
and the human family,
always living to make intercession for us.

In your wisdom and goodness
the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother and companion of the Redeemer,
was to have a maternal role in the Church:
of intercession and pardon,
of prayer and grace,
of reconciliation and peace.

The love that she bestows as a mother
is entirely the gift of Christ the one Mediator,
from whom alone she receives her power.

Her children, in their trials and fears,
turn with confidence to the Blessed Virgin,
calling to her as Mother of mercy and handmaid of grace.

In our joy we sing to your glory
with all the choirs of Angels:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

The Spirit and the Bride say: Come.
Let all who hear say: Come.
Let all who thirst, come;
let all who will, take the free gift of the water of life.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Refreshed, Lord God,
at the fountain of salvation,
we pray that by the power of this Sacrament
and through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin
we may be more closely united
to Christ, the Mediator,
and ever more faithfully enter into
the mystery of redemption.
Through Christ our Lord.

SOLEMN BLESSING

The following Solemn Blessing may be used:

May God, who through the childbearing of the Blessed Virgin Mary
willed in his great kindness to redeem the human race,

May you, who have devoutly gathered to celebrate this memorial of our Lady,

Ordinary Time III

May the Father of mercies bless you
through the intercession of Blessed Mary ever-Virgin
through whom he chose to remedy the fall of our first parents.

May Jesus Christ, who in the womb of the Blessed Virgin
became our brother and our Savior,
free your hearts from every trace of sin.
℟. Amen.

May the Holy Spirit
increase in you the grace of true faith and of hope for heaven,
that you may walk in the ways of the Gospel
